The note tool I wanted didn't exist. So I built it.

Nodio is made by one person — I’m Dominic, working under my one-person company Obelisk Systems. Founder-led, indie, and honest about being in beta. My promise is simple: a graph that’s yours, on your machine — never rented back to you from someone else’s cloud.

From five tools to one file

I’m not a startup. I’m one developer who got tired of the same problem: every project lived in five places at once. Ideas in one app, the plan in another, the board in a third, the notes somewhere else — and me, endlessly re-typing the same information between them.

I tried the usual path. Trello for boards. Notion for docs. Obsidian for notes. Each solved one piece and added its own friction — another subscription, another silo, another export that didn’t quite fit. I kept hitting the same wall: my thinking was connected, but my tools weren’t.

So I stopped stitching tools together and started building the one I actually wanted — a single canvas where the notes, the plan, the board and the writing all live on the same nodes. One file, on my own disk. That became Nodio.

One person, building in the open

Nodio is built and maintained by me alone, under Obelisk Systems. No investors, no growth team, no roadmap written by a marketing department.

I also build it as a father of two small kids — which is exactly why it works the way it does. My time is finite, so Nodio has to be sustainable, not hype-driven. And since my own data stays on my machine, so yours does too. Local-first isn’t a feature I bolted on; it’s the reason I started.

Being solo also means I’m honest about where things stand: Nodio is in beta, some edges are still rough, and I’d rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. And when you send feedback, it reaches the person who writes the code — not a ticket queue.

Principles, not buzzwords

These aren’t slogans. They’re the rules I actually build by — and the ones I won’t break to grow faster.

Privacy by architecture

No cloud account required. AI and MCP run locally or via providers you choose — never a locked-in vendor.

Indie & honest

A one-person, founder-led project. Beta-ready and roadmap-transparent, with no enterprise buzzwords.

Your data, your machine

Copy a .db, mirror to Markdown, export to many formats. Portability is a feature, not an afterthought.

Free core

The core product is free — no account, no card, no dark patterns.

Own your knowledge graph.

Nodio is small enough that your feedback actually changes it. You’re early — come tell me what’s missing.
