Yes. The core app is free during beta — no account, no credit card, no trial clock. A Pro tier may later add optional extras like sync and collaboration, but the core you use today stays free.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login. Download Nodio, open it, and start — everything runs locally on your machine.
Where is my data stored — is anything uploaded?
Everything lives locally, in a single SQLite .db file on your own disk. Nothing is uploaded by default, and Nodio runs fully offline. Optional features — a cloud AI provider or cloud voices — only send data if you switch them on. → more: Privacy Policy
Does it work offline?
Fully. The app, your projects, local AI (via Ollama), offline dictation (Whisper) and offline read-aloud (Piper) all work with no connection. Only the optional cloud features need internet.
Is my project one file I can back up myself?
Yes. Each project is one portable .db file — copy it, move it, or back it up like any other file. Nodio also keeps automatic backups, and you can export to ZIP or Markdown any time.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows (10/11) is available today. A Linux build (AppImage) arrives with the 0.7.0 release, and macOS is on the way. → more: Download
Can I import my Obsidian vault / my Markdown?
Yes. You can import an existing Obsidian vault, and Live-Write continuously mirrors your notes back to Markdown — so they stay usable in Obsidian, VS Code or Cursor alongside Nodio.
